Virtual Mixing Desk

This was for my second year student centered project.

The brief for this project was entirely up to us.  At the time one of my weakest areas was audio so i decided to do a project on audio.

Mixing desks are frightening the first time as there are so many different dials and knobs.  The best way to learn about something is to interact with it except not everyone has a mixing desk.  This is a learning aid for people that want to know what the different controls do.

All the artwork was created using Cinema 4D, processed in Photoshop and imported to Flash for the final player.

I wanted to create a unique style to the mixing desk so i decided to use a minimal amount of colour along with a stochastic radiosity render to get this look.  I spent a lot of time modelling this mixing desk along with experimenting with different render settings to create different styles and looks for this project.

I was quite happy with this project because I overcame a lot of different problems to come up with the final product.  One of the problems was how to make the rotating knobs work and feel natural.

Another aspect I was happy with is if you turn up the gain and push the faders all the way up the audio dose actually get distorted as it would on a real mixing desk.

The song playing through the mixing desk is 'Now is The Time' by Triaxis.
